Brown Walls in Kitchen

The kitchen is often the center of the home, where the family gathers to eat as well as to discuss the events of the day. Because of its centrality, many people prefer the color scheme in their kitchens to be bright and cheery. If your kitchen has dark brown walls, yellow or orange curtains will brighten it up and make it a more energizing location. Yellow and orange are "analogous," or harmonious, with brown, because they fall within three shades of each other on the color wheel. According to Sam Malone of Interior Design & Decorating Ideas, using analogous colors makes a room seem balanced and orderly.

Brown Walls in Living Room

The living room also has a central function in the home, but it typically has a more fun feel to it. If your living room has brown walls, an interesting curtain color choice would be purple, blue, or fuchsia. These fall directly across from brown on the color wheel, meaning they are complimentary, or contrasting, colors. Colors opposite each other on the color wheel make each other "pop" and add interest to the room. Moreover, unexpected colors can be a great conversation starter in a living room.

Brown Walls in Girl's Bedroom

For a bedroom, it is important to use calming, relaxing colors, since you use this space for sleeping. However, that doesn't mean the room's decor has to be boring. For a girl's room with brown walls, pale pinks and greens are a good way to add a touch of color without overwhelming the senses. As long as the color of the curtains isn't too jarring, it can still be used in relaxing settings.

Brown Walls in Boy's Bedroom

For boys, it is equally important to use relaxing colors. Pale blues and pale greens are good options, because they add color without feeling too feminine. Darker shades, such as navy blue or fern green, can also be good, depending on your child's taste. If you want to stick to a more traditional and subdued color in a bedroom for either a boy or girl, incorporate a crisp white or warm caramel curtain; both options can make the bedroom feel fresh and classy.
