How to Prepare a Corian Countertop for Caulking
Things You'll Need
Instructions
1Ensure the countertop is level between the two pieces making up the seam. If the bubble on the level is not in the center, insert wood shims under the countertop to align and level it until the bubble centers in the level.
2
Check the seam edges to make sure they fit together smoothly. Make sure the nose edging aligns between the adjacent pieces.
3
Dip a rag into either denatured alcohol or acetone.
4
Wipe the edges of the seams or gaps with denatured alcohol or acetone to remove surface oils, grime and dirt. Caulking will not adhere as well to an oily, greasy or dirty Corian countertop as it will to a clean countertop.
5
Apply low-tack masking tape 1/8 to 1/4 inch from the seam on both sides of the seam or gap. Low-tack masking tape prevents a messy edge to the flexible silicone sealant.
