- 1). Shake any grit or dirt out of your bath mat before placing it in the washing machine.
- 2). Read the instruction label on your bath mat. Bath mats made of microfiber, for example, often require gentle wash cycles and gentle detergent.
- 3). Place your foam-backed bath mat into the washing machine. Pour detergent into the dispenser or directly over the laundry.
- 4). Select either the gentle or regular wash cycle setting depending on the instructions. Choose a warm, not hot, water temperature. High agitation levels and hot water can cause the foam backing to break apart.
- 5). Remove your bath mat from the washer and hang it over a clean chair or drying rack. Do not place the mat in the drying machine. High temperatures can melt the backing and shrink certain materials.
