How to Change the Fuel Filter on a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado
- 1). Unscrew the gas cap from the gas tank.
- 2). Locate the fuel filter underneath the truck. The fuel filter is positioned under the driver's side in the rail in front of the gas tank. Take the proper size open-end wrench and remove both of the fuel lines from the fuel filter.
- 3). Hold the fuel lines down so that the excess fuel can run into the small bucket.
- 4). Remove the bracket that is holding the fuel filter to the rail with a ratchet and the proper size socket. Then pull the old fuel filter out.
- 5). Put the new fuel filter in place with the arrow pointing toward the engine. Bolt the bracket back over the new fuel filter.
- 6). Connect both fuel lines back to the fuel filter and tighten them down.
- 7). Screw the gas cap back on the gas tank. Start the truck up and inspect the fuel filter and fuel lines for leaks while the truck is running. Turn the truck off.
