- 1). Download and install the iDEN USB Installation Application from Motorola. As of 2010, the iDEN software package is compatible with all releases of Windows more recent than Windows 2000. Both 32- and 64-bit versions of the software are available.
- 2). Open the data port connector on the bottom part of the Nextel cell phone by tugging downward and moving it to provide access to the port.
- 3). Put the data cable connector inside the interface on the bottom of the phone. Press the cable in until it locks into place.
- 4). Push the USB side of the Nextel data cable straight into an accessible USB port on the computer.
- 5). Click on the "Start" menu and click the option to view "All Programs." Select and open "Network Connections" by clicking on it.
- 6). Right-click "iDEN USB Modem" and select "Connect." When the on-screen dialer appears, click "Dial" to use your phone as a modem. Nextel phones support two modes when being used as modems: circuit data for transmitting large documents and packet data for smaller data transfers. This ensures that all data transfers are handled optimally by the phone.
