Pontiac, a division of General Motors (GM) first introduced the Firebird to the world in 1967 and continued to make it until 2002. Pontiac produced four different generations of Firebird -- from 1967 to 1969, 1970 to 1981, 1982 to 1992 and 1993 to 2002. The type of seats suitable for a Firebird may vary, depending on the vehicle's generation. - Universal racing seats should fit most vehicles, but seat brackets are necessary for specific models. you can also custom fit universal brackets to cars to allow the installation of a racing seat. Sparco makes a universal seat rail that allows you to adjust it to work with racing seats. Some seats are side mounted with brackets attached to the side of the seat and the floor of the vehicle. Alternatively, you can attach the seat to rails and bolt it on from underneath; you can also buy brackets suitable for specific eras of Firebird.
- Look for Firebird seat covers at secondhand parts dealers and individuals across the world. According to the website Car Stuff "there are more Pontiac Firebird parts and Pontiac Firebird accessories on the market than there are for nearly any other vehicle." You can find seat covers for more modern versions of the Firebird more easily than you can find original 1960s versions; prices vary.
- Finally, you can reproduce the classic Firebird seat by purchasing new components such as foam, leather covers, seat panels and headrests. These are available for different generations of Firebird from the 1960s onwards.
