Bracelets and Necklaces

• Gather up beads, yarn and string and have your girls put together their own jewelry. They can make the jewelry for themselves, or they can make it to give to each other. If the girls are young, be sure to supervise them while they're working with beads, as they could be a choking hazard. Different knotting methods make bead unnecessary for some friendship bracelets and necklaces. Use the yarn or string as your decorative element by choosing multiple colors for your project. The length you cut the strands will determine what type of jewelry you're making.
  
  

Make New Friends, but Keep the Old

• Girl Scouts promote independence and lifelong learning for girls, and the organization also promotes community and friendship. Early on in a Scout's career, she learns a song called "Make New Friends." The DLTK website recommends having your girls make pins for each other that reference the lyrics, "Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver, the other is gold. A circle is round, it has no end. That's how long I will be your friend." Use silver and gold pipe cleaners cut in half to make two circles each for two girls. Complete one silver circle first, then thread the gold circle through the first before sealing the ends. Glue the circles to a safety pin or a pin used for button-making, and have the girls swap them with their best friends.
  
  

Friendship Art

• Many friendship crafts are as simple as using construction paper, glue and glitter. Have your girls create a friendship quilt by giving them squares of paper to decorate as they see fit, and when they're done, attach them all together to create a paper "quilt." Or you can have the girls draw figures of two girls holding hands, and they can color each girl to look like themselves and their best friend.
  
  

Baking with Friends

• Turn holiday baking into a craft session with your girls. Mix up a batch of your favorite rollable cookie dough, and roll it out so the girls can cut out shaped cookies. Once the cookies are cut and baked, let the girls spend time decorating them with their favorite icing, candies and sprinkles. They can write special friendship phrases in frosting and share the cookies with their friends and family, or even take them to school as a special class treat.
