    A Solution

    • If you have a bottle of white vinegar, a bucket and some warm water then you have all that you need to easily remove wallpaper. Your mixture will be half vinegar and half water, so be sure you have enough vinegar to go around. A gallon of water and a gallon of vinegar should be sufficient. Mix the solution in a bucket, and make sure you are wearing protective gloves and goggles. The vinegar and water solution may be environmentally friendly, but if it gets on your skin or in your eyes then it can burn. You may also want to wear a long-sleeve shirt and long pants as you do not want the solution getting on your skin.

    Preparation

    • Use a utility knife to cut large "X"s in the wallpaper. This will help the solution to get into the adhesive and dissolve it faster. Make sure all of the furniture is cleared out of the room and the rug is covered. Remember that this is vinegar and it can stain fabric. If you cannot remove the furniture from the room, then move the furniture to the center of the room and cover it with a plastic drop cloth. Use a ladder to reach the high spots, and go slowly to avoid falling, or injuring yourself with the utility knife.

    Removing the Wallpaper

    • You will want to remove the wallpaper in sections, so start with the section closest to a corner and work around the wall. Apply the vinegar solution to the top of the first panel with a sponge, and then wait about five seconds. Once you have given it a few seconds, grab the corner of the section and start pulling on it. If you use a putty knife behind the paper it will come away from the wall easier. If any adhesive is left behind on the wall after removing the paper, apply more solution and then scrape the remaining adhesive off the wall with the putty knife.
