Weather and Storms

• A storm door can stop the elements from hitting the main door. When a storm door is properly installed, rain, ice and snow is stopped at the outside edge of the building, where it cannot build up in the doorway.
  
  

Insulation

• A tightly hung storm door creates an airlock between the main door and the outside edge of the building, where the storm door is hung. If both doors are put tightly into place so as to form an effective seal when they are closed, this extra air space adds insulation to the house.
  
  

Dual Use

• During the hot summer months the glass panels can be removed and screens installed, thus converting the storm door to a screen door. During hot weather the main door can be left open so the storm door can act as an air vent.
  
  

Less Painting

• A storm door will give more life to the coat of paint or finish that covers the main entrance.
  
  

Security

• A lock on the storm door adds some security to your home. Even though a door in this location is easier to breach, it still can be a deterrent to forced entry.
