How to Repair a Buick Window
- 1). Remove the armrest of the door with the broken window by removing the screws that hold it in place. Pull the armrest away from the door frame.
- 2). Detach the plastic casing of the exterior side rear view mirror. Slip a flathead screwdriver between the plastic casing and the frame of the mirror. Release the plastic frame by pressing outward around the perimeter of the frame. You will hear a snap upon the release of each tab that holds the mirror in place.
- 3). Release the interior door panel from the door frame. Slip a flathead screwdriver between the door frame and the panel. Release the plastic tabs that hold the door in place. Slide the screwdriver around the perimeter of the door while pulling the screwdriver away from the door frame. A snap will be heard upon the release of each plastic tab that holds the door in place.
- 4). Gently pull the panel away from the door frame just enough to work with the wires. Disconnect the wires of the window control switch, floor marker light and window motor. Untwist or unplug the wires depending on the type of connection for that particular wire. Remove the panel completely from the door frame once all of the wires have been released.
- 5). Remove the bolts located at the bottom of the door that hold the window to the regulator. Use an adjustable wrench to do this.
- 6). Unscrew the bolts located at the top and bottom of the motor regulator's vertical runners. The runners are the bars that run up and down the door and slide the window up and down.
- 7). Remove the bolts holding the door frame to the window motor. They will be highly visible on the small motor within the door frame.
- 8). Remove the regulator and motor. Unscrew the bolts that secure the regular and motor in the door frame. The mechanisms rest between the two vertical runners near the top of the door frame.
- 9). Place a new motor and regulator assembly in the location from which you just removed the old one. Align the runners so that they sit in the door parallel and straight up and down. Insert and tighten the nuts through the door and the motor and regulator assembly. Tighten the bolts with an adjustable wrench to secure them in place.
- 10
Plug the motor harness wiring into the new motor. There will be an outlet on the side of the motor that will fit the shape of the wire harness plug. - 11
Bring the door panel within a few inches of the door frame. It will need to be close enough to make the wire connections between the panel and the door frame. - 12
Twist or plug in the wires between the panel and door by reversing the step you took to detach them previously. - 13
Press the door panel against the door frame and fit it into place. Align all the bolt holes around the perimeter of the panel. Insert bolts into the panel and tighten them with an adjustable wrench. - 14
Place the arm rest back in the position from which it was removed. Align the bolt holes of the door with the respective holes of the panel. Insert and tighten the bolts through the arm rest and the panel with a adjustable wrench. - 15
Test the window. Turn the car on and press the window switch to adjust the window up and down.
