  Fluorocarbon fishing line is a product that's meant to be superior to other types of fishing line. While fluorocarbon line does indeed offer some advantages over traditional monofilament fishing line, there are negatives to using the line in some circumstances. It's all a matter of selecting the proper time and place if you intend on using fluorocarbon line.
  
  

Transparency

• One of the major advantages of 100 percent fluorocarbon fishing line is that it's completely transparent. Monofilament fishing line may be hard to see, but it's still visible, and this can warn some of the sharper-eyed fish that the tasty morsel they see in front of them is, in actuality, a lure. On the other hand, having a completely clear fishing line can be problematic, if there are lots of fishermen present and you want to avoid tangling lines. Also, if fluorocarbon line is left behind after the fishing trip, it can pose an invisible risk to other creatures.
  
  

Strength

• Monofilament fishing line doesn't compete very well with 100 percent fluorocarbon fishing line in the strength department. Fluorocarbon fishing line doesn't stretch, which cannot be said for monofilament fishing line. Additionally, fluorocarbon fishing lines don't absorb water. The more water that a traditional fishing line absorbs, the weaker it becomes, until it eventually snaps. Additionally, fluorocarbon fishing line is extremely resistant to abrasions and cutting, according to the Oklahoma Bass Fishing website. All of these factors can add up to lend a lot of weight in favor of fluorocarbon fishing line.
  
  

Weight

• Fluorocarbon fishing line is heavy, and it will readily sink into the water. This makes it more beneficial than monofilament fishing line when you're using fishing lures that also sink into the water. However, if you are using a bobbing lure that sits on the surface, you'll need to keep your fluorocarbon fishing line taut, otherwise the lure will sink. This could ruin the lure. A heavy line can also snag swimming fish, alerting them that there's something going on above, so they won't take your bait.
