How to Make Inverted Pleat Curtains
- 1). Measure the length of your windows down to where you want the curtains to hang. Add four inches to allow for the top and bottom hems. Measure the width of your window and double that measurement and add 10 inches.
- 2). Cut both the curtain and the lining fabric to the necessary lengths and widths.
- 3). Lay one panel of your drapery fabric, right side up on a large, flat surface. Lay a lining piece on top of that with the right side down. Use pins to hold the fabric in place and sew around both of the sides and the bottom of the curtain.
- 4). Turn the curtain right side out and iron the seams.
- 5). Fold in the raw edges at the top edge of your curtain two inches. Hold the fabric in place with pins and sew straight across.
- 6). Measure and mark all the way across the top of your curtain at 12-inch intervals. Mark 3 inches down from the top on the backside of the curtain.
- 7). Start at the mark in the middle of the curtain. Pinch the fabric with your fingers two inches from the mark on either side of the mark. Use a pin to hold the pleat in place temporarily.
- 8). Flatten out the pleat on the back of the curtain. Iron the pleat to hold the creases in place.
- 9). Thread a needle and hand sew the edges of the pleat being careful that your sewing threads do not show through to the front of the curtain.
