How to Decorate with Books in Your Living Room
- 1). Use a stack of books as an end table. Stack the books about 24 inches high. Start the stack with the largest books on the bottom. You will need to maintain the size of the stack, or graduate the stack to be smaller at the top. Use a level to keep the books even and straight. Stack the books with the edges facing each other. Protect the top of the stack with a round glass tabletop.
- 2). Keep large hardback books, called coffee table books, on top of tables. Books about travel, nature, art, or movies make great conversation pieces. Rotate the books once a month to ignite new conversations.
- 3). Incorporate books into your display cabinet with other collectibles. Disperse books in an etagere in small stacks of three or five, or standing, with your favorite statuette or glass vase acting as bookends. Purchase a few leather bound books to make your collection look more expensive.
- 4). Group together a few of your favorite leather bound books with a comfortable chair and a reading lamp. A corner of your living room has just become a library.
- 5). To highlight antiques and rare finds, have a dedicated bookcase for collectible books. Show off the books with a marble globe or bookends of Rodin's The Thinker. Make this display a focal point of your living room with a leather chair, ottoman, and floor lamp--the perfect spot to curl up after a long day.
