Sunday school and vacation Bible school groups enjoy a range of activities. Fun outdoor sports give students a break from learning memory verses and stories. However, plan a range of indoor craft activities in case of inclement weather or for a quiet change of pace. Choose unisex craft ideas that appeal to a range of ages and promote the principles of Christianity. - A fun craft activity for the Easter holiday is the creation of a jelly bean cross. Purchase a bag of assorted pastel colored jelly beans and a wooden cross from a craft store. Use one coat of acrylic paint to paint the cross the color of the jellybeans you will use. Let dry. Hot-glue the jelly beans to the front of the cross. Use hot glue to attach a large ribbon to the back. Once the glue dries, tie to a nail on the wall.
- Use colored construction paper to create a 10 commandments wreath. First, have each child trace his or her hand onto 10 sheets of construction paper each. Then, cut out each hand. The children should write the 10 commandments in marker or crayon onto their hands so that the words are centered on the palm. Next, have them glue the edge of one paper hand to the edge of the next hand creating a circular wreath. Use hot glue to attach a piece of yarn to the top two corners of the wreath so that it can be hung from a door or doorknob.
- Gather a collection of seashells from a craft store including clamshells, cowrie and cockleshells. Pair medium-sized clamshells with small, round-bodied shell such as a bubble or cowrie shell, and a small cockleshell shell. The clamshell will be used for the angel's dress, then glue on a cowrie shell for her head and a small cockleshell for her bonnet. Once the glue dries, paint on a face and add black yarn for hair.
