Ideas for a Sports Themed Bedroom

    Bed

    • Sheets are a great beginning. No matter what sport you are working with, chances are there are sheets to coordinate with it. Sheet sets featuring your favorite team in both fitted, top sheets and pillow cases are one way to go. Choosing sheets that are solids in the team colors are another, or put on a solid fitted sheet topped by one in the sports pattern of your choice. Layer on a bed spread or comforter featuring your favorite team's colors or a motif in your favorite sport. Finish off the bed with matching shams and a sports-themed throw.

    Walls

    • Paint a mural detailing a scene from a sporting event. If you aren't artistic, there are wall decals available featuring sports scenes, mascots, pennants, scoreboards and even coaches and players. Frame programs from past games and line them up behind the bed as a substitute headboard. Or do the same with a team jersey or poster. Paint the walls in the team colors and run a wallpaper border around the top in the sports motif. Hang pennants from different teams in the same sport or shake it up with a mix of athletes and athletics.

    Floors

    • Dot the floors with area rugs in the shapes of the equipment for your sport, like footballs, basketballs and baseballs, or choose an area rug featuring the team mascot or logo. Stencil a border around the floor's edges in a sports motif. Lay wall-to-wall carpet in team colors.

    Furniture

    • Lockers make great storage for clothes, toys and books. Substitute them for dressers, and decorate them with sports-related decals. Upholster furniture and chair cushions with fabric featuring a sports theme. Add decals to wooden furniture, but be sure to use the kind that strip off easily without harming the finish.

    Accessories

    • Sports equipment hung from the ceiling above the bed can take the place of a headboard. Sports motif lampshades give side tables and desks a spark of team spirit. Add a layer to the decor with a team flag hung on the door or above a dresser or bed. Dress the windows with curtains in a spots motif or use a team rug or blanket as a window covering. Crafting a calendar from pictures of a favorite player helps keep track of game days.
