How to Make a Paper Dragon Tail

    • 1). Practice sketching your dragon tail design on scrap paper until you come up with a design you like. Dragon tails are generally triangular in shape, with the thicker part of the tail near the body before gradually thinning into a sharp point.

    • 2). Open and flatten a cardboard box so it's one large piece. Flip it so you are using the plain, unmarked cardboard from the inside of the box. Use the entire length of the cardboard to make the tail or only a section, depending on its use. Draw your dragon tail outline over the cardboard with pencil.

    • 3). Use a box cutter knife to cut the tail out of the cardboard. Paint the tail in your chosen shade of green, though you may choose another color for your dragon tail. Allow the paint to dry for about 20 minutes.

    • 4). Use black paint or marker to detail the dragon tail. Make square designs all over the tail to give the it a "scaly" look. Allow paint or marker to dry for about 15 minutes.

    • 5). Cut "scales" out of the same piece of cardboard, if you have enough, or use another piece of cardboard. Make four to eight scales depending on the length of your tail, and space each scale 1 1/2 inch to 2 inches apart on top of the tail. If you're unsure of how exactly to design dragon scales, simply draw and cut out right triangles. Paint the scales the same color as the tail. Allow the paint to dry for about 15 minutes before hot-gluing the scales to the tail. Let the glue to dry for about 10 minutes.

    • 6). Use hot glue to attach an old belt or sturdy piece of string to the top inside section of the tail for costume use. Secure the belt or tie the string around your waist to wear the dragon tail.
