  • 1). Determine what is causing your discouragement.

  • 2). Write down the causes of your discouragement and the things that are out of your control.

  • 3). Make another list of the things you can control. You have choices; write them down and evaluate the pros and cons of each.

  • 4). Write a gratitude list. Write down everything for which you are grateful, no matter how small it may seem.

  • 5). Make a list of all the things you like about yourself. Again, write down everything.

  • 6). Talk to a trusted friend about your discouragement.

  • 7). Read religious literature, if applicable. Search out passages dealing with discouragement.
