How to Make a Homemade T-Shirt With Ribbon Laced Through It
- 1). Make small holes all around the neckline by inserting the points of the scissors into the fabric. This will help keep the cuts minimal. Leave about an inch between each hole.
- 2). Attach a safety pin to the end of a piece of ribbon, 48 inches long by 1/2 inch wide. Holding the safety pin, thread through the neckline holes all the way around, starting and ending at the shoulder.
- 3). Secure the end by tying in a small bow. Stitch the bow to the shoulder to keep it in place.
- 4). Make two rows of small holes down one side of the tank top by inserting the points of the scissors into the fabric. Keep the rows parallel on either side of each seam, approximately half an inch apart. Start the row half an inch below the armhole.
- 5). Repeat this step for the other side of the T-shirt.
- 6). Cut two pieces of ribbon, 40 inches long by 1 inch wide. Attach a safety pin, for threading, at both ends of each piece. Thread one end through the first hole of the first row, under the arm, and thread the other end through the first hole of the second row. Make sure you have an equal length of ribbon on each side.
- 7). Thread the ribbon back and forth, through and across each hole, as if lacing a shoe. This will give you a corset effect. Tie the ends of the ribbon into a knot and leave hanging or tie in a bow. Repeat this process on the other side of the T-shirt.
- 1). Measure 10 inches down the center back of the T-shirt and mark this point with a safety pin. Cut a rounded scoop neck from the shoulders down to the pin, removing it once the fabric has been cut out.
- 2). Cut four small holes in a line, going down, on each side of the scoop, so you have eight holes in total. Make sure every hole is in line with each one in the row opposite.
- 3). Cut 75 inches of thin ribbon and attach a safety pin at each end to make threading easier. Start at the bottom and thread each end into the first hole on either side. Make sure the lengths are even.
- 4). Thread each side alternately, from left to right in a crisscross fashion, as if lacing shoes. At the top, tie the remaining ribbon in a bow.
