- 1). Remove any objects that are sitting on your furniture before you move it. Framed photos, vases, electronic equipment and other breakable items should always be moved first, before you move the furniture.
- 2). Remove smaller pieces of furniture from the room. Small items, such as lamps, ottomans, end tables, coffee tables and other accent pieces should always be moved first. This will give you more room to work with when moving larger items.
- 3). Install gliders on larger pieces of furniture. Most furniture, home improvement, hardware and big box department stores sell discs that you can place under the legs of large pieces of furniture so you can push the furniture instead of having to lift it.
- 4). Push the larger pieces of furniture out of the room. Some pieces, such as larger or unusually shaped sofas, will require you to lift and move them from the room at an angle. If this is the case, work with a partner or two to move the furniture out of the room.
