How to Use a PDA as an iPod
- 1). Find out how much memory your PDA has; many PDAs use removable micro SD cards to store files. You can purchase a larger-capacity SD card if your PDA has a slot for one.
- 2). Get music to put on your PDA. You may already have music on your computer, either on a program such as iTunes or stored in a folder on your hard drive.
If not, copy music from your CDs to your hard drive. You can also purchase digital tracks of music from online stores such as Amazon and iTunes. - 3). Enable Bluetooth on your PDA and computer if both have Bluetooth capabilities.
Enable Bluetooth on your Windows PC by going into "Control Panel" and locating the Bluetooth settings icon. If you have a Macintosh, enable it by clicking on the Bluetooth symbol at the top right of your screen. It is usually between the time display and the "Search" icon. Click it and select "Turn Bluetooth on." - 4). Go to the "Settings" or "Control Panel" section under the main menu on your PDA, depending on which operating system is being run on the device. Look for "Bluetooth" and select that option. Enable Bluetooth if it isn't already on.
You'll know the Bluetooth connection is working when a message comes up on your PDA asking to "Allow the connection" to the computer. You may be asked to enter a PIN as well, which can be any four-digit number you choose.
Once you do this and select "OK," a message will appear on your computer asking if you want to allow the connection. You'll be prompted for the PIN you just created. Enter the PIN and allow the connection. The two devices will be connected via Bluetooth. - 5). If one or both devices lack Bluetooth, check to see if the PDA has a USB connection. It may also have a dock that charges it and can be used to connect it to your computer. Connect via the dock or USB cable, and the PDA should show up as a new drive on your desktop.
- 6). Move the music files to your PDA. Select the folder on your computer where you've saved your music files. If the PDA appears as an icon on your desktop, you'll be able to select and drag the music files directly to that icon.
Otherwise you can right-click on the files and select "Move to" or "Copy to." A menu should drop down. Locate the PDA device (it should appear with any disks or drives present) and select the device. The music files will be copied to the PDA. - 7). Disconnect the PDA from your computer or Bluetooth connection when you are finished transferring files. Connect your headphones to the headphone jack on your PDA and open the music player in the PDA. You should be able to find the music files you've just placed on the PDA and play them.
If you cannot locate the music files on your PDA, open the "Search" option in the PDA browser. Type in the name or file name of the songs. Double-click on them and the PDA software will automatically open them in the music player. - 8). Listen to your music on your PDA. You can add and delete music files each time you connect your PDA device to your computer.
