How to Use Floral Designs in the Bedroom

    • 1). Select your room's theme. Although it's perfectly acceptable to embrace a floral theme as the overall theme of your room, deciding on a decorating style that utilizes flowers as a primary element of the decorating theme will help you narrow down the type of flowers to feature as well as the decorative elements associated with that style.

    • 2). Cover the walls with a floral-patterned wallpaper or decoupage design. While wallpaper has the advantage of being a ready-made element, which saves time, the decoupage option allows you to create a more personal look or to recreate a pattern that may be out of print.

    • 3). Hang a soft, floral-patterned curtain set at your window. If you're afraid of overpowering the room with floral patterns, look for a plain curtain that features the colors of the flowers you're featuring in your room. If desired, add a valance with a floral pattern on it.

    • 4). Spread a flower-bedecked bedspread on your bed. Consider the size of the flowers on the print and how they contribute to your room's style when making your purchase. For example, while large blooms will inspire an English country-style feeling, smaller flowers will convey a folk or shabby chic ambiance.

    • 5). Mix and match floral patterns in decorative accessories arranged around the room, like floral-themed throw pillows on the bed or embroidered cushions set on the foot bench at the end of your bed. This variety of pattern adds to the visual beauty of the room.

    • 6). Lay a large floral-patterned area rug on the floor.

    • 7). Decorate a fireplace area with wall vases filled with fresh flowers hung above the mantel or by adding a candle and flower arrangement to the mantel.

    • 8). Add decorative touches via small items, such as the light switch plate or dresser handles. These small room elements give you another place to feature a floral pattern. You can find these decorative elements in the home section of the department stores or you can make them.
