How to Restore Sound on Windows XP
- 1). Back up the registry. Click "Start," "Run," then type: %SystemRoot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe. Click "OK" to continue.
- 2). Confirm your restore point. On the "Welcome to System Restore" page, click "Create" to create a restore point. Click "Next" to continue.
- 3). Name your restore point. On the "Create a Restore Point" page, choose a name for your restore process. Click "Create" to confirm, then select "Close" to return to the main screen.
- 4). Start the Registry Editor. Click "Start," "Run," then type: Regedt32.exe. Click "OK" to continue.
- 5). Select the HKEY_CURRENT_USER from the screen. This will allow you to modify the values. Look for the following value in the right pane: <No Name> :REG_SZ:
- 6). Delete the value. If there is a value in this line, you will need to delete it. Click on the value, then press the "Delete" button.
- 7). Exit the Registry Editor. Select "Quit Registry Editor" on the window to resume your Windows session.
- 8). Restart the computer. Select "Start" and "Restart" for the change to take effect.
