How to Create a Storybook

    • 1). Brainstorm storybook ideas on paper, before writing. Work out what characters you want to include, and decide what traits and backgrounds they have, plus what role they play in the story. Choose the location and style for your book- for example, it could be fantasy, set in Medieval times or have cartoon graphics.

    • 2). Create the story by writing down its beginning, middle and end. As a rule of thumb, there is a main character who has to reach a goal. However, it has to overcome obstacles in order to finally achieve it. Bear this in mind when writing down the sequence of events in the storybook.

    • 3). Divide your story into short paragraphs containing 3- 10 sentences. Keep the storybook short, so limit your first story to between 10 and 15 paragraphs.

    • 4). Cover the blank notebook with wrapping paper, and secure it into place with sticky tape. This gives your storybook a more authentic and creative finish.

    • 5). Write out the story inside the blank notebook. Write one paragraph on every other page. The gaps are used for illustrations, so leave more blank pages between the paragraphs if you want to include more drawings.

    • 6). Read each paragraph and pick out the main action, character or idea that is communicated. Then, draw a rough sketch on the paper to illustrate this.

    • 7). Begin illustrating your storybook. Use the rough sketches you practiced during step 6, and transfer these into the storybook onto the blank pages.

    • 8). Decorate your storybook using glitter, colored pencils and other accessories. Bring the storybook to life by making the illustrations colorful to look at.
