    Measurements and Price

    • Garmin's Nuvi 650 weighs 6.7 oz. and measures 4.9 inches wide, 2.9 inches tall and 0.9 inches thick. Its 4.3-inch thin film transistor touch screen shows color images at 480 by 272 pixels of resolution and provides anti-glare viewing. Originally, the Nuvi 650 sold for $749 and came with one-year parts and labor warranties.

    Components and Software

    • A digital player that plays audio files and displays pictures in MP3 and JPEG formats is part of the Nuvi 650 package. According to GPSReview.net, without an FM receiver, the quality of sound produced by the Nuvi 650's MP3 player is not very good. The GPS unit supports SD memory cards and features the preinstalled MapSource City Navigator North America NT software. The Nuvi 650 GPS device features satellite-based augmentation system technology. To load the unit with additional maps and software, a built-in USB port allows for connection to a laptop or desktop computer. When fully charged, the Nuvi 650's standard lithium ion battery provides the device with up to seven hours of battery life.

    Features

    • Programmed to provide up to 500 waypoints, the Nuvi 650 provides two-dimensional and three-dimensional map viewing and is pre-equipped with a calculator and clock. The unit has pre-installed points of interest and allows for custom POIs, as well. In addition to on-screen, turn-by-turn navigational instructions, the Nuvi 650's text-to-speech function gives audible directions that include street name, distance and directional instructions. The GPS's navigational trip computer provides several helpful features, such as fastest/shortest route information and route information that avoids toll roads and highways.

    Miscellaneous

    • When it was originally released, the Nuvi 650 came with several accessories, including a USB cable, a car power adapter and a windshield mount. If features such as Bluetooth hands-free calling and a traffic receiver (both not available on the 650) are important to you, GPSReviews.net recommends giving the Garmin Nuvi 660, the next model up from the 650, a good look. The Nuvi 650 does, however, provide real-time traffic capability as an add-on feature. As you progress upward along the Nuvi 600 line of GPS units, you will find additional features, including European map coverage and MSN Direct services.
