DIY- Misfits Tops
- Select an old or ruined Misfits shirt. With fabric scissors, cut out the skull logo in a square or rectangle shape. Purchase a new shirt in a color contrasted to your logo. Most Misfits logos are black and white or black and green, so choose a light blue or red T-shirt to accentuate your creation. Wash and dry your new shirt and lay it on a flat, solid surface to dry smoothly. Purchase fabric glue, a sewing needle and thread to match your new shirt. Place your cutout logo on the front of the shirt in the desired position. Centering isn't always the best option, so play around with the placement. Apply fabric glue to the back of your cutout, avoiding the edges up to 1 inch, and press on your new shirt. Allow the glue to dry overnight. Prepare the sewing needle with thread and begin sewing very small straight stitches around the inside of your glued logo. Work approximately 1 inch inside your logo, and do not worry about the lines being straight. Go around the edges completely. You may want to add a second and even third line of stitches for decoration.
- Take a trip to a craft store and select a set of separated, medium-size alphabet letter stencils and green, white or red fabric paint. Get out all the letters needed to spell out "Misfits." Using a sharp pair of scissors, round the inside edges of the letters. Cut small, rounded divots from the interior of all the letters to create jagged or bumpy letters. Select a white or black T-shirt and lay it flat on a covered surface. Decide on the placement of your letters. Using a small brush and your fabric paint, begin applying the jagged letters on your shirt. When all letters are in place, dip your brush in the paint and dab the shirt using a straight, downward motion around the outside of the lettering. Form an outline completely around your words with the paint spots. Allow to dry overnight.
- Place a piece of tracing paper over a Misfits logo skull. Carefully trace the logo, including the mouth, eyes and nose. Using sharp scissors, cut out the skulls and the openings, being precise with the facial features. Select a stiff, medium-width piece of cardboard and use your tracing to draw the logo on it. Cut the logo out carefully from the cardboard using a box cutter or razor-blade knife. Select a button-down shirt or T-shirt in black or red and purchase white or green spray paint. Lay your shirt on a covered, flat surface, preferably outdoors. Place the cardboard cutout on the back of the shirt in the desired position. You may wish to put more than one on each side. Spray the paint in a back-and-forth motion across the cutout. Allow to dry for at least 10 minutes before removing the cutout. The skull will be imprinted on your shirt. Allow to dry for at least 24 hours before wearing.
