    • 1). Measure the width and length of the top of your table and write the figures down. Decide how far you want your tablecloth to hang over the edges of the table. Measure the length of this “drop” over the edge and write this number down as well.

    • 2). Figure the width of your tablecloth by multiplying the “drop” measurement by two, then add the width measurement of the top of the table to this number. Subtract 5 inches to allow for your ruffle. Write this new measurement down as your total width measurement.

    • 3). Figure the length of your tablecloth by multiplying the “drop” measurement by two, then add the length of the top of the table to this number. Subtract 5 inches to allow for your ruffle. Write this new measurement down as your total length measurement.

    • 4). Cut out a rectangle from your sheet using the width and length measurement you just figured. Set this rectangle aside.

    • 5). Cut two strips of fabric for the ruffles for the long sides of your tablecloth. Make each strip 3 inches wide and twice as long as the original length measurement you took of the top of your table. Cut two strips of fabric for the ruffles for the shorter sides of your tablecloth. Make each strip 3 inches wide and twice as long as the original width measurement of the top of your table.

    • 6). Create a hem on your ruffle strips by folding one of the long, raw edges and both short edges on each of your strips 1/3 inch toward the wrong, or unprinted, sides of the fabric. Iron the fold into place. Stitch the hem in place with a 1/4-inch hemstitch on each ruffle strip.

    • 7). Attach your ruffler foot to your sewing machine according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Set the ruffler foot so it ruffles the fabric to half its original length. Consult your owner’s manual if necessary. Insert the remaining long, raw edge of each ruffle strip and ruffle each one.

    • 8). Pin each long ruffled piece to the long edges of the tablecloth rectangle, with the right sides together and the raw edges matching up. Sew in place using a half-inch seam allowance. Pin each short ruffled piece to the short edges of the tablecloth rectangle with the right sides together and the raw edges matching up. Sew in place using a half-inch seam allowance.

    • 9). Remove the pins. Iron the tablecloth and place over your table.
