How to Create a Henna Tattoo
- 1). Purchase a henna tattoo kit at a natural living or natural food store or online.
- 2). Mix the henna dye ingredients according to package directions. Transfer to the application bottle.
- 3). Wash and dry the area where you will apply the henna tattoo. Wipe with rubbing alcohol and allow to dry thoroughly.
- 4). Draw or transfer a tattoo design to the skin you want to tattoo. Most henna tattoo kits come with a small selection of stencils that you apply with water just like a transferable tattoo. Or freehand draw a design with a pen. Any pen marks will fade soon after the henna tattoo is fully dry.
- 5). Gently squeeze the applicator and slowly work from the inside of your design to the outside. Start from the point furthest away so you don't drag your hand through the fresh henna. Don't let the applicator tip touch skin.
- 6). If you make a mistake, quickly clean up the mistake with a damp washcloth or scrape away with a toothpick.
- 7). Keep the area free from clothing, hair, or other items that can smudge your henna tattoo. The henna will dry in about 30 to 60 minutes, but leave the henna on for up to two to eight hours for maximum dyeing. Henna darkens as it dries, then crusts and eventually flakes off, leaving the skin stained.
- 8). Gently scrape off any henna that hasn't fallen off in the drying process. Do not scrub the area, exfoliate the skin, or wear shoes or clothing that will cause it to fade.
