How to Remove Oil-Based Paint From Tools

    • 1). Line up three buckets to act as one wash cycle and two rinse cycles. Place the appropriate amount of quality paint thinner in the wash bucket. Fill the rinse buckets with hot water.

    • 2). Place the tools in the wash bucket and scrub them vigorously to remove the oil-based paint. Wear rubber gloves to protect your hands. Wring out the tools once the paint is removed.

    • 3). Rinse the tools in the first rinse bucket. Repeat the scrubbing process to remove any excess oil residue and paint thinner. Wring out the tools again and place them in the last rinse cycle. Let the tools dry fully before their next use.

    • 4). Remove excess oil-based paint from paint buckets and trays before washing. Wash with rags soaked in paint thinner. Rinse thoroughly and wipe them dry.
