Vikings had to provide their own weapons. Their battle-axes were variations of the axes they used at home for chopping wood. To make a battle-axe, cut a double-bladed axe out of cardboard, paint the cardboard silver and tape it to the broomstick. Use the same steps to make a spear. A spear was the Vikings' most popular weapon. - 2). It's a common idea that Viking helmets had horns. In reality, they didn't, because it would have been easy for an enemy to hold on to horns in hand-to-hand combat. In fact, contemporary Viking artwork shows that many Vikings didn't wear helmets at all.
But since it's fun and you want people to know you're a Viking, make a helmet out of cardboard. Measure the circumference of your head. Mark this measurement on the edge of a piece of cardboard. Now cut a "M" shape out of the cardboard, but make the M rounded. Form the cardboard into a helmet shape and tape the inside seams to hold the helmet together. Paint the helmet silver. - 3). Make a shirt of iron mail by cutting out front and back torso-sized pieces of cardboard. Cut half circles for armholes. Paint the cardboard silver and then draw small chain links all over it to show that it's iron mail. Or make a leather shirt (often worn underneath armor for comfort) by following the same steps, but painting the cardboard brown and decorating it by drawing round iron plates that you paint silver.
- 4). Make a round shield out of cardboard. It should be 2 feet wide -- big enough to ward off enemies. Paint it brown and decorate it with a simple cross or a sun wheel. Or paint a raven or a wolf on it; Vikings identified with those animals.
