Girls needn't be the only ones with the freedom to express themselves with wild haircuts. There are plenty of wacky haircuts for boys out there, and it seems that there is no age limit for such crazy haircuts. (Some toddlers, and old men, look great with spikes.) Before you pick a cut, make sure you can commit to the maintenance of a wacky haircut. While some styles will be hassle-free, others may require 20 minutes to style properly. - Yes, buzz cuts can be wacky. Just pick your favorite symbol, animal, or object and have a talented stylist inscribe that object with clippers onto the back of your buzzed head. Add color to a few choice spots for a truly unique look.
- The best haircuts for spiky styles will have a substantial amount of layers. Some boys like spikes on top, but for a wackier look, get a cut that leaves enough length in the bangs to smooth hair across the face and spike the rest up in the back. Spikes can also go clear around the head, sticking out in all directions like a blowfish.
- The Mohawk, the style with one long central spike and hair buzzed or shaved on the sides, is a classic and wild boy's look. For much younger boys, try instead a "faux hawk," which is longer rather than shaved on the sides. This looks wacky but provides more styling convenience, which is helpful because toddlers usually don't have the patience to stand in front of a mirror and gel their hair.
- The long "surfer" haircut works well on boys who already have a long head of hair to work with. This cut is usually layered in back, just-above-shoulder length, and framed with some sweeping bangs. It looks great fresh out of the shower and requires little upkeep. Additionally, long hair can look great on boys with naturally curly locks---a one-length 'do will weigh the curls down into a smooth wave and provide a really unique look.
