- 1). Ventilate any room that has items manufactured with particle board. Increase air flow by opening doors and windows. This allows the formaldehyde smells to dissipate. Keep the temperature and humidity in the room at a moderate level, since high temperatures and humidity can exacerbate formaldehyde smells. Consider using an air conditioning unit or dehumidifier to control moisture and temperature.
- 2). Cover the particle board with latex-based paints or varnish, wallpaper or floor coverings, such as a carpet on top of a particle-board flooring. These barriers can successfully seal off the resin and protect you and your family from the formaldehyde odors.
- 3). Use an odor absorber such as Nano TiO2 Deodorant or Chemspace, which remove existing formaldehyde gas fumes from the air. Some plants have proved successful at reducing fumes of formaldehyde from the air, including chrysanthemums, Boston ferns and dwarf date palms.
