Can I Recover All My Contacts That I Lost After Updating My iPhone?
- Backing up your iPhone saves all your contacts, calendar events, call history, camera roll and home screen arrangements. Every time you sync your iPhone with your iTunes account, you save your contacts in a backup file. The backup feature protects against lost information in case of a restore or update to your operating system.
- The Info tab for your iPhone in iTunes allows you to sync your contacts with a software program on your computer. This backs up your contacts to your computer beyond using the simple iTunes backup. You need to check the box to "Sync Contacts with" and choose the program you want to use. ITunes supports Microsoft Outlook, Google Contacts, Windows Mail and Yahoo! Address Book. By utilizing this option, you can perform a simple sync to restore your contacts from your computer back to your iPhone.
- The restore from backup feature lets you restore the last settings you saved on your computer for your iPhone. Connect your iPhone to your personal computer using your iPhone USB cord. Launch the iTunes program on your computer. Right-click your iPhone in the left column and choose the option to "Restore From Backup." Confirm you want to restore your iPhone. Your iPhone backup file installs on your iPhone restoring the contacts you had on your iPhone during that sync session.
- Updating your iPhone installs the newest firmware version or operating system available from Apple. The firmware version is not one of the items saved during the backup process. For this reason, you can install a backup on your iPhone and not revert back to your previous firmware version. Restoring from backup does not downgrade your iPhone firmware version.
