How to Get Rid of the Window XP Blue Screen
- 1). Turn off the computer. Turn it on again.
- 2). Press the "F8" key as the computer boots up. Press the key every second or two until the boot menu appears.
- 3). Press the arrow keys to highlight the "Safe Mode" option. Press "Enter."
- 4). Right-click on the Start button. Click "Properties."
- 5). Click on the Hardware tab. Click "Device Manager."
- 6). Right-click on the icon titled "Display Adapter." Click "Uninstall."
- 7). Double-click on your computer's display driver from its location on the hard drive to re-install it.
- 1). Identify the name of the file that caused the blue screen error. This will either appear on the first blue screen you see, or in the text of a new blue screen that appears after re-installing the display drivers. The file name is located after the line of text that reads "The problem seems to be caused by the following file." Write down the file name.
- 2). Turn your computer off and then on. Press "F8" to enter the boot menu. Launch the computer in safe mode.
- 3). Click on the Start button. Click "Search." Check the boxes next to the "All Files and Folders" and "Search Hidden Files and Folders" options.
- 4). Type the name of the file into the box and click "Search." Right-click on the file once found and click "Open Containing Folder."
- 5). Right-click on the file in the window that opens. Click "Delete." Double-click on your computer's Recycle Bin. Right-click on the file again and click "Delete."
