WonderCon 2009 - Manga Start
Ian Sy of Manga Start teaches kids the basics of drawing manga at the Sakura of America booth.
Sakura of America teamed up with Manga Start to offer free manga drawing lessons to budding artists. Ian Christian (Studio Kyuu), along with Jeannie Lee (Gneeworks) and Phuoung-Mai Bui Quang (P.M.B.Q Studios) teach workshops for art teachers so they can pass along manga drawing techniques to their students.
"We're trying to demystify manga for teachers. They feel more comfortable teaching it once they find out that it's based on art fundamentals," said Lee.
Manga Start has also worked with Sakura of America to develop a series of how to draw manga pamphlets for kids and educators, and they also offer lessons and tips online at MangaStart.com.
