How Do I Become a Notary in Wisconsin?

    • 1). Confirm that you meet the Wisconsin requirements before you apply. You must have had at least an 8th grade education, be at least 18 years of age with no arrests or criminal convictions.

    • 2). Read the Wisconsin Notary Public Tutorial (see resources) and take the final quiz. Print out the certificate to verify that you have passed.

    • 3). Download the Four-Year Notary Public Commission Forms (see resources), or send a request for the forms with a self-addressed envelope to the Wisconsin Secretary of State.

    • 4). Fill out all of the Four-Year Notary Public Commission forms by following the instructions on the forms. These forms include the Four-Year Notary Public Application, Completed Bond Form, and Completed Oath of Office Form.

    • 5). Enclose a check for $20 made payable to the Wisconsin Secretary of State. This is your application fee.

    • 6). Write and submit a letter confirming that you are knowledgeable about the duties and responsibilities of a Wisconsin notary public. You must also explain how you came of that knowledge. This can either be through reading the State of Wisconsin Notary Public Information Brochure, or by passing the Wisconsin Notary Public Tutorial quiz. Sign and date the letter.

    • 7). Place all of the documents mentioned above in an envelope and mail it to:
