- 1). Reset the receiver by unplugging its power cord for 30 seconds, and plugging it back in. Allow the receiver sufficient time to reboot and watch it for a few minutes to see if it stays on. A simple reset most likely will resolve the issue. If the receiver still shuts down on its own, some more troubleshooting is required.
- 2). Check the AC power connection that attaches the receiver to its electrical source. First, see if the cord has come loose from the back of the receiver. Secure the cable on that side, and then check the other side where it plugs into an electrical outlet or surge protector. Once that side of the power cable is also secured, watch the receiver for a few minutes to see if it will stay on more consistently.
- 3). Plug the AC power cable into a different electrical source temporarily for testing purposes. Now that you have determined that a loose power cable is not at fault, other likely culprits are a faulty power cable or a bad electrical source. To test these, plug the electrical cord into a different outlet or surge protector and check to see if the problem is resolved. If not, the receiver's power cable or the receiver itself may need to be replaced. If the receiver stays on while plugged into a different outlet, you should have an electrician examine any outlets that appear to be intermittently losing current, or replace any malfunctioning surge protectors.
