How to Spot a Fake Chanel Purse

    • 1). Compare photos of the purse for sale with photos from Chanel's official website (see Resources below). If you notice any discrepancies, then the purse in question is undoubtedly a fake. Each Chanel purse model will feature the same design with no variations from purse to purse.

    • 2). Examine the purse's material. Chanel purses are made from the finest materials such as leather, suede and high-quality fabrics. If the purse in question feels cheap, flimsy or thin, it is likely a replica purse. Be aware that Chanel purses are never made from lambskin but rather calfskin.

    • 3). Study the stitching on the purse. The stitching on authentic Chanel purses will be even, neat and sturdy. If the purse's stitching is crooked, uneven or sloppy, it is certainly a fake purse. Also look for glue residue. Fake purses are often glued together with superficial stitching just for appearance.

    • 4). Look at the hardware on the purse. All buckles, clasps, zippers and chains should be high quality and sturdy. If the hardware can be easily bent or tarnished, it is likely a fake.

    • 5). Inspect the purse's label. Replica purses often feature misspellings on the label. Confirm that the spelling of "Chanel" is correct. It should say "Italy" or "France" on the label. Fake Chanel purses sometimes say "China" or "Japan."

    • 6). Check the logo. The Chanel logo is two interlocking Cs that face away from each other. If the Cs face inward toward each other, it is not a real Chanel purse.
