Styling With Shawls
- Use a shawl as a wrap for an outdoor party when the weather still gets slightly cool in the evening. Throw it around your shoulders with each end hanging loose around your arms, or tie the shawl at chest level to keep from constantly fooling with it. Use fancier shawls made with lighter fabrics for such occasions, such as those that feature an intricate floral design or fringe around its edges.
- Another shawl option is to use it as a head wrap. Place the middle front of the shawl on top of your head and leave the ends hanging loose on either side, or throw the shawl ends around opposite shoulder sides for a tighter fit. Use smaller shawls to cover dirty hair by wrapping them around the head and tying them in the back or in a bow on the side of your neck. You can also use them to keep hair off your neck completely by tying hair up in the shawl.
- Shawls can double as sarongs, or triangular fabrics commonly used as beach wraps. Wrap the shawl around your waist so it covers well and tie it on the side for an angled look, where the length of the shawl drapes down one side. Wear shawl sarongs to the beach, to beach and pool parties or over light pants or capris for a causal evening look.
- Utilize heavier fabric shawls as short dress options. Like sarongs, this option works for beach and pool parties, though heavier fabric shawls may be too warm for beach and pool wear. Tie the shawl securely around your chest as an off-the-shoulder dress, and if possible wrap the shawl around you several times before tying it. Doing so will avoid potentially embarrassing situations. Wear shawl dresses to causal summer dinners or parties, or as a cool dress option on hot days.
