How to Sew a Contour Curtain
- 1). Measure the width of your window and triple it. Measure the length of the window and add 8 inches to allow for hemming and a curtain header.
- 2). Cut out both the lining and the curtain fabric to these measurements. Sew multiple lengths of fabric together if necessary to get the width you need.
- 3). Fold the lining fabric in two along the width and mark the middle with a pin. Lay out the lining fabric on a large, flat surface.
- 4). Divide the entire width of the curtain by seven. For example, if the curtain measures 120 inches in width, the placement for the ring tape will be approximately every 17 inches. Start in the middle and use a pencil to mark out the measurements on the lining fabric for six pieces of ring tape.
- 5). Cut lengths of ring tape that are 5 inches shorter than the length of the fabric. Pin the ring tape, lining up the bottom edge of both the ring tape and the curtain. Sew the ring tape to the lining.
- 6). Layer the curtain fabric and the lining with right sides together. Stitch at the sides and the bottom of the curtain.
- 7). Fold down the top edge of the curtain 5 inches. Turn under just the raw edge and stitch in place. Stitch 2½ inches up to create the rod pocket casing.
- 8). Cut six lengths of cording in pairs having the same length. The greatest lengths should be a little longer than half the length of the window and the shortest should be about a quarter the length of the window. Cut the third pair halfway between those two measurements. Add 4 inches to each length of cord to allow for tying.
- 9). Tie one end of the longest lengths of cording around the bottom ring on the outermost rings. Thread the cording up through the rings and tie again at the top. Repeat with the two other pairs of rings with the shortest lengths on the middle ring tape.
