How Do I Attach a Hitch to a Trailer?
- 1). Raise the trailer coupler by turning the trailer jack clockwise until the coupler is higher than the hitch of the towing vehicle.
- 2). Release the trailer clamp by squeezing the clamp trigger manually and pull it up to unlock the clamp.
- 3). Place the towing vehicle in reverse and back up until the hitch is near the trailer coupler. Have an assistant stand by the trailer and guide you as you back up to ensure that the vehicle hitch lines up with the trailer coupler.
- 4). Lower the trailer jack by turning the jack handle counterclockwise until the coupler covers the ball of the hitch.
- 5). Squeeze the clamp trigger with your hand and push it down to lock the coupler to the ball of the hitch.
- 6). Attach the safety chains to the frame of the towing vehicle. There are two holes near the license plate to connect the chains to the frame. Spin the nuts on the hook of the chain to close the opening of the hook so that the chains do not release from the frame.
- 7). Insert the trailer light plug into the plug underneath the towing vehicle. Align the pins of the trailer light plugs and push them together until they are flush with one another.
