How to Make a Speaker Box Cover
- 1). Measure the dimensions of the speaker box (width, height and depth) with a measuring tape to determine how long and wide of a piece of material you will need to wrap the entire box. For a box with a width of 22 inches, a height of 10 inches and a depth of 10 inches, the fabric would need to be 22 inches wide and 40 inches long.
- 2). Add four inches to the width and height of the fabric to allow for overlap. For the example, the fabric would need to be 26 inches by 44 inches.
- 3). Cut the material to cover the speaker box to the measurements you obtained in Step 2.
- 4). Apply the contact cement to both the covering material and the speaker box using a paint brush.
- 5). Wrap the covering material around the speaker box so that the material hangs off of the edges evenly, and overlaps itself evenly.
- 6). Cut through the overlapping pieces of fabric and remove the scraps so that the covering material completely wraps the speaker box without overlapping. Cut out the speaker holes in the fabric using the holes in the speaker box as your guide.
- 7). Cut two pieces of plywood to the height and depth of the speaker box. For the example, the plywood would measure 10 inches by 10 inches.
- 8). Cut two pieces of covering material that are four inches larger in all directions than the plywood pieces you cut in Step 7. For the example, the pieces of fabric would be 14 inches by 14 inches.
- 9). Wrap the plywood pieces with the covering material. Pull the material tight, and staple the material to the backside of the plywood pieces.
- 10
Drill mounting holes in the plywood pieces where they will attach to the speaker box ends. - 11
Fold over the fabric that is hanging over the ends of the speaker box, and secure the speaker box end covers to the top and bottom (ends) of the speaker box with wood screws.
