    Plants

    • To soften the angles of the front of your home, use plants. If you have stairs leading to the front door, place potted plants on the ends of each step to create a dramatic tunnel effect. Frame the front door by placing trees on either side; you can put them in pots or plant them so they grow around the edge. If you have a front porch, hang potted flowers from the front edge of the roof. Choose plants that will be suited to the amount of sunlight and your area's weather.

    Seasonal Decorations

    • Your front door is the perfect place to set a festive mood in your home. In the fall, lean stalks of wheat or corn against the front door or the side of the steps; you can also create an arrangement of pumpkins and squash. At Christmas, hang a wreath on the front door or string a garland of greenery from the eaves. You can also change out the doormat for each season.

    Door

    • For an immediate change in your front entry, spruce up the front door. If you can, paint it a bold or unexpected color for a big statement. You can also install glass panels to give a hint at the house beyond. If you want a touch of green, install planters that hang from the middle of the door for a unique touch.

    Lighting

    • Lighting can make a big difference in the front entry. If you have interesting architectural features, use lights to highlight the angles and detail. Spotlights that point up or down give a dramatic lighting effect. You can also use decorative lights, like old-fashioned fixtures on either side of the door designed to look like gaslights. In the summer, install hanging candle holders for a soft, romantic glow. In a modern house, you can put in recessed lights on the front of each step. Extra lighting also adds an element of safety to your entry.
