How to Install Shower Tile with Glue or Thinset
- 1). Cover all areas around the shower stall with drop cloths to protect the bathroom floors from becoming damaged during the installation process. Block the shower drain with a rag or thick pieces of tape to avoid clogging the drain with pieces of debris during installation.
- 2). Mark the shower walls with horizontal and vertical lines where the tiles will be placed. If you have curves along the walls of your shower, check to make sure that the curved tiles you have fit in the provided area. If not, use a tile cutter to cut the tile according to the layout of the shower.
- 3). Apply the glue to the walls of the shower with a trowel and set the corresponding tiles in place. Apply the glue in 5-foot-by-5-foot areas so that it does not dry before the tiles are set. Slightly twist each tile as you place it on the glue so that the adhesive sticks well to it. If any adhesive oozes out when the tile is pressed down, wipe it away immediately with a rag. Continue until all of your shower's walls are covered with new tile. Wait 24 hours for the tiles to dry.
- 4). Apply grout to the areas in between the tiles with a grout float. Use the side of the trowel to remove any grout that oozes out onto the face of the tiles. Continue until all horizontal and vertical lines between the tiles have been filled.
