How to Remove a Car's Cassette Player

    • 1). Set the car's emergency brake. If you use an automatic car, and the gear selection is off the steering column, turn the gear selector to the setting that moves the gear shift as far to the right as possible.

    • 2). Move the steering wheel and column as far up as possible if your car is equipped with a movable steering column.

    • 3). Unscrew the set screws on the dash board. Places to look for the set screws are underneath the speedometer bezel--the ring around the gauge, under the glove box, or under the heat and radio settings.

    • 4). Pry the dash panel out from the panel mounts using the flathead screwdriver. Take care not to rip or break the plastic. Gently tug on the panel to pop off the attachment clips.

    • 5). Unscrew any screws or allen attachments along the mounting bracket of the cassette stereo. Pull the stereo unit straight out from the housing. Unplug all electric plug connections.
