How to Lay Linoleum Flooring On Cement
- 1). Scrub the cement floor thoroughly with acidic floor cleanser and a scrub brush, removing any dirt or oil. Rinse well with a mop. Let it dry 48 hours.
- 2). Measure and mark the middle of each edge of the floor. Snap a line with your chalk snap line between one middle mark and the one across the floor from it. Stretch the string of the snap line between the two remaining marks, so it intersects the first line and divides the room into four squares that meet at the center. Before you snap the second line, lay a square at the intersection and adjust the string as needed so it’s exactly perpendicular to the first line. Snap the line.
- 3). Spread vinyl tile floor adhesive over the middle of the floor surface using your trowel. Cover 4 to 6 square feet in one of the four center corners formed by the two lines.
- 4). Set the first linoleum tile into place in the adhesive, bordered by the two lines of the intersection.
- 5). Press additional tiles around the first one in the adhesive, butting the tiles tightly together. Spread more adhesive as needed. Build out from the middle of the floor toward the edges, proceeding in a grid pattern.
- 6). Measure and cut tiles for the spaces by the walls, using a vinyl tile cutter. Set the tiles with the cut sides facing the walls. Let the tiles set for 24 hours before walking on them.
