  Ground effects are parts of an automobile that can serve one of two purposes: improving aerodynamics and improving aesthetics. The original purpose of ground effects was to lower the vehicle to the ground or minimize the distance from the ground to the bottom of the car. The more air between the car and the road, the more resistance on the car, making it less fuel efficient and slower. After ground effects were introduced, many people came to like the visual style and began modifying their car for the style, rather than the function. Some Ford Mustangs come with ground effects, although most models can be modified for greater aerodynamics and visual style.
  
  

2005-2009 Mustang GT Maier Racing Fiberglass Wide Body Kit

• There are many fiberglass body kits available, usually some for every year and style of Mustang. The 2005-2009 Mustang GT fiberglass body kit includes a hood, front spoiler, front fender set, rear bumper cover, side skirts, rear quarter panels layovers and a rear wing. Hood louvers can be included. The fenders can also include Louvers, and the rear bumper can be modified with cutouts. A wide-body kit increases the width of the car at the fenders, so the owner can add wider and lower racing wheels for added stability. The fiberglass wide-body kit adds both lower ground effects and a wider stance for increased aerodynamics and greater stability.
  
  

Wings West 1999-2004 Body Kits

• Wings West offers full body kits, as well as partial body kits, either for the front, hood, rear, side or spoiler. For those with a small budget, partial kits offer a good alternative to improving the looks and function of the car without spending $3,000 for the full kit. The set is called The Dominator, so the visual style is meant to enhance the aggressive nature of the car while also providing the improved aerodynamics. The side kits can also help provide for increased stability, although not as much as is found in the Maier Racing kit, which is a wide-body kit.
  
  

Sarona

• Sarona sells a number of different ground effects for Mustangs starting with model year 1983 through 2011. Parts are sold independently, although full kits are also available. Modern trunk and roof wings with and without louvers are available. All parts are hand-laid and made of fiberglass, so the time from ordering to receiving the parts is longer than other companies. The parts are not painted, making it easy for car owners to order a part without concern for whether its color will match the eat of the car.
