Instructions on How to Make a Silk Rose Topiary

Choose a pedestal vase or plant pot appropriate for the project. A decorative topiary for a formal wedding will require an elegant vase while a painted clay pot will be more appropriate for an outdoor wedding. Adhere a piece of foam to the interior of the pot with floral clay. - 2

Cut the silk rose stems to 2 inches long with the wire cutters. Use roses in full bloom or use a mixture of buds and blooms. - 3

Mark an 1-inch area on one side of the foam ball. The dowel rod or branch will be inserted here later. Hold the foam ball steady while inserting a rose stem into the surface. Apply an all-temperature glue made for foam to secure the stem in the foam if it moves easily. Insert roses one by one until the 1-inch space is the only foam that is visible. - 4). Insert the tree branch or dowel rod straight down into the center of the 1-inch bare space on the foam ball. Push the stick into the ball carefully until it is 2 inches deep. Add adhesive where the wood meets the foam to hold the rod securely in place.
- 5). Insert the other end of the dowel or branch straight into the center of the foam secured in the bottom of the vase or plant pot. Push it in until it is 3-to-5 inches deep. Squeeze glue around the area where the stick emerges from the top of the foam.
- 6). Wrap corsage ribbon, nylon netting, silk ivy or lace around the dowel rod or branch to cover it completely. Secure with the glue gun adhesive.
- 7). Place colored stones, Spanish moss or greenery inside the vase or pot to hide the foam inside it. Insert more roses or complementary silk flowers into the foam for a floral arrangement.
- 8). Add sprays of pearls, ribbon bows, crystals, faux birds or butterflies for embellishment.
