Step-by-Step Instructions on Lanyard Making

    Starting the Lanyard

    • Cut two strands of lanyard, several feet long. You may want to use two different colors for a more unique lanyard. Lay one strand (Strand A) on a flat surface, and lay the second strand (Strand B) on top of it in a "t" shape. Loop Strand A over Strand B so that both ends of Strand A are on one side, and a loop is formed. Then loop the other end of Strand A over Strand B in the opposite direction so that the two ends of Strand A are on opposite sides of Strand B, and two loops are formed. Take one end of Strand B and thread it over the loop closer to it and under the loop farther from it. Then take the other end of Strand B and thread it the same way -- over the loop closer to it and under the loop farther from it. Pull two adjacent strand ends in each hand to tighten the first stitch.

    Continuing the Lanyard

    • If you spread out the strands, they should be in a similar configuration as they were before the first stitch, with each strand end lying in a different direction. Repeat the stitch process from the previous section by making two loops with one color and threading the other color over and over the loops, as described. Continue until the lanyard reaches the desired length.

    Finishing the Lanyard

    • Make one last stitch, but do not tighten it. Then wrap each strand under the strand to its left and up through the loops so that it comes out of the middle of the stitch. When you finish this step, all four strands should be coming out of the center of the loose stitch. Grasp the four strands in one hand and pull to tighten this last stitch. You can then add a lanyard hook to make your lanyard into a key chain, or attach the hook to both sides to make it into a bracelet or anklet.
