How to Paint a Room an Eggplant Color

104 5

    Preparation

    • 1). Remove all wall décor, including any hardware.

    • 2). Spread drop cloths around the flooring and furniture to protect against splatter and spills.

    • 3). Cover holes and imperfections in the wall surface, using the spackle and spreader/putty knife to keep them from showing through the eggplant paint. Follow the spackle manufacturer's instructions for application.

    • 4). Sand the spackle patches with the 1200-grit sandpaper so that each one is smooth to the touch and is flush with the wall surface.

    • 5). Wash the walls using soapy water and a sponge. Squeeze out the sponge so it is wet but not soaked. Allow the wall to dry completely.

    • 6). Cover trim, ceilings and other areas that you do not want touched by your primer or eggplant paint with painter's tape.

    Priming

    • 1). Mix your primer thoroughly with a mixing stick. Use the stick to "pull" the primer from the bottom and fold it into the primer at the top.

    • 2). Paint the primer onto the wall with the edging paint brush, specifically in the corners and where the wall meets the ceiling and trim, which are areas where a paint roller doesn't work well.

    • 3). Apply at least two coats of primer to the wall surface using the roller and paint roller pan, allowing one coat to dry before applying another.

    • 4). Rinse out the roller pan and edging paint brush.

    • 5). Remove the used roller pad, and replace with an unused pad.

    Painting

    • 1). Mix the eggplant paint in the same manner you mixed the primer, using a clean mixing stick.

    • 2). Apply eggplant paint around the trimming, corners and ceiling with the edging paint brush. Because the eggplant color is such a deep shade of purple, you will most likely need to apply two coats with the edging paint brush. Let the first coat dry before you add the second.

    • 3). Apply the eggplant color to the rest of the wall surface using the paint roller and roller pan. You will also need to apply at least two coats of paint, letting each coat dry before you apply another.

    • 4). Add as many coats of eggplant colored paint you need to reach the desired darkness. When finished, rinse your paint brush and roller pan with soapy water. When the paint is completely dry, remove the painter's tape and drop cloths.

    • 5). Rehang your wall décor and any hardware as desired.
