DIY Picture Framing

    • 1). Decide on a location for your picture either in your home or office. Also consider the style and size of the frame you want. Picture frames come in a variety of sizes and design. Generally, if you are matting and framing an 8-by-10 picture, then the inside frame size should be at least 11-inches-by-14-inches.

    • 2). Purchase the frame, border mat and mat board for your picture. You can dry mount your photo to the mat board, or you can use a spray adhesive which offers an easy and inexpensive way to mount your picture. The mat board should be the same size as the border mat so that, when the picture is attached to the center of the mat board, it will line up with the cutout in the border mat.

    • 3). Lay the mat board down on a table or work desk. Position the print in the center of the board and use a pencil to mark the position. Remove the picture and apply the adhesive spray to the back of the picture. Position the picture on the mat board, place a piece of paper over the print and place a book or flat object on top of that. Set aside and allow the adhesive dry.

    • 4). Place the picture frame face-down on the table and remove the metal tabs from the back inside edge. Lift out the backing and glass. Clean the glass with commercial glass cleaner and place it back into the frame.

    • 5). Place the mat face-down in the frame. Place the mat board with the mounted picture face-down in the frame.

    • 6). Replace the backing and secure it with the metal tabs. You can now hang your framed picture.
